Not an ad. Not a hotel brochure. Just me, 1 deluxe studio, and a side of mystery odors.

What Living in The Colony by Infinitum Really Feels Like
Maybe you’re eyeing The Colony Infinitum for an extended stay and you've seen the flashy photos and dreamy city views.
Maybe now you're curious about what it’s actually like to live there for more than a weekend.
I gave The Colony Infinitum a solid six-week audition. It gave me a mixed bag of comfort and a few unpleasant surprises.
I'm writing about about my lived experience—the perks, the quirks, weird smells, and a Boogie Night.
Why The Colony Infinitum Nails the Location Game in KL
If location were a dating app profile, The Colony Infinitum (Chow Kit, 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) would be the one that actually shows up, knows where the good coffee is, and doesn’t make you walk five miles in bad shoes.
It’s a few steps from Quill City Mall—if you’re in Building A, it’s right across the street. From Building B, it’s just around the corner.

Quill City Mall has all the basics: retail shops for clothes, shoes, household goods, groceries, medical clinics—dentist, vision, too—and an Anytime Fitness.
The Medan Tuanku Monorail station is a one-minute walk away. I timed it. The monorail sits across from Quill Mall, just look for the Starbucks and you're there. Take it and three stops later, you’re deep in Bukit Bintang, where all the shiny things live.
What’s Near The Colony Infinitum? A Lot, and It’s All Easy to Reach

The Loft, Common Grind, and 103 Coffee – offer many choices in coffee drinks and food items. The win for me, I could get healthy items.
Petronas Twin Towers – No need for a Grab ride; you can walk there. Yes, really. And it's free cardio.
A bushel of fresh beans. Buy in bulk for the best deals. The Wet Market – Blocks and blocks of fresh produce (and meats) at unbelievable bargains. I scored a large package of tempeh for 1 MYR. That’s 23 cents, folks—Whole Foods could never.
Pavilion Mall – Bougie nomads, rejoice. Glitzy, huge, and home to a food court where you can pretend to work while sipping something overpriced. I took the pedestrian walkway from Suria Mall to get there and entertained myself by playing fashion police along the way. Tip: Pay attention to the signage, you want to follow signs to the Aquarian, and once you pass the Aquarian, go through the convention center, turn right and head up the escalator. Follow the path to Bukit Bintang.
The Standout Comforts That Set This Stay Apart
Walkability
I walked everywhere I needed to go—and to my surprise, you really can get a good work out despite there not being any steep hills or stair climbs like I'm used to in Seattle.

Design Touches That Made A Small Space Useful

My deluxe studio wasn’t dripping in luxury, but it had enough comforts for me to extend my stay.
Separate toilet and shower – So rare, so welcome. Once you’ve soaked your toilet paper because the entire bathroom is a wet zone, you learn to treasure this separation.
Ceiling fan – Underrated but fully appreciated. Helped with airflow and kept mosquitoes from attacking me when I opened the windows.
One standout feature: the double-door wardrobe. It looked good in the space. One side for hanging (with sturdy hangers that doubled as my air-drying team), the other for folded clothes that finally escaped suitcase life.
Bug-free living – Discovering roaches and ants is the fastest way to ruin a stay. My studio passed the pest test.
Floor-to-ceiling windows – Perfect for watching the stormy wild weather, the soccer game, and assessing the street chaos I’d have to brave to reach the nearby hawker stands. I could see the whole scene from above—including whether traffic looked survivable. Sidewalks and crossing signals existed, but so drivers treated red lights like gentle suggestions.
City skyline + soccer field views – Oddly peaceful combo.
Big TV – Not a smart TV, but good enough for YouTube and Netflix. I just prayed no one hijacked my queue.
My Host Deserves a Trophy

When I asked, Shihab, the property owner and host, always delivered.
Plus He and his partner, Asif carried all my luggage to my studio at check-in. Better service than I’ve gotten at hotels with bellhops.
Amenities Worth Mentioning
Beyond the apartment itself, a few standout features around the building made everyday life easier—and occasionally, a little bit fabulous.

Rooftop gym – With that skyline view, I expected theme music to start playing while I did squats. I felt like I was training for my comeback tour.
Inhouse café – Comfy enough to work from all day, with chill playlists, decent meal deals, and a city view that made work inviting.
Late-night food options – Street vendors ran past midnight (some till 2 a.m.), Mels in Quill Mall stayed open 24/7, and both the downstairs café and 7-Eleven were right next to the building. Convenience? Off the charts.
There Were Some Hiccups
Graceful Roamers, I wouldn’t be doing you any favors if I only told the rosy parts. A few things went sideways—and while none were dealbreakers, they were at times, quite bothersome.

Pool and deck were off-limits halfway through my stay due to renovations. Sad trombone.
Yoga deck (a floor above the gym—imagine that view) was closed off once the pool renos began.
Balcony = HVAC HQ, making that outdoor space loud, hot, and barely usable. I gave it a scrappy makeover with a fluffy rug and candles, but had to sit scrunched up, peering through the railing like I was in timeout.
Little Irritations That Added Up
No microwave – And no good reason why. Instead, there was a hot plate that smoked the entire apartment every time I used it.
Persistent sewer smell – Originated from the kitchen sink and washing machine. I attacked it with baking soda, lemon scrubs, and vinegar. It always came back.
Wobbly desk – This wasn’t just a shaky desk—it looked like someone gave up halfway through assembling it. As a digital nomad, a functional workspace is non-negotiable. I tried to make it work with a little rearranging, a few screw tweaks, and a rug for backup support. But more often than not, I found myself at a café instead—because that desk just couldn’t be trusted.
Bathroom light – Installed in the worst possible spot. You had to guess where to apply your mascara. And just to keep things interesting, there wasn’t a single outlet in the entire bathroom—so if you wanted to use the hair dryer while actually looking in the mirror? Good luck with that.
Hot plate and kettle both died toward the end of my stay. I took it personally. Luckily, the toaster oven had my back.
Best Unexpected Moment: MJ at The Loft

The scene . . . One Friday night, my friends and I wandered into a restaurant called The Loft. It's classy. It's hip. It has a swanky rooftop bar with both indoor and outdoor seating.
The DJ was on fire—every track hit like a personal anthem. And suddenly—I was channeling full-throttle Michael Jackson.
I wasn’t just dancing. I was delivering.
Spins, snaps, footwork—there’s video proof. No, you can’t see it. Yet.
If Michael was watching, he’d have tossed me his glove.
Would I Stay at The Colony by Infinitum Again? I Would!
Despite a few hiccups, when I return to KL, I’m booking this place!
The location’s too convenient, the host too helpful, and the area too familiar for me to pass up.

When you’ve memorized the shortcut to the best tempeh and the street vendors know your order? It’s just too tough to say good bye forever.
The Colony Infinitum worked for me, and I believe it will work for you too—especially if you value easy city access, local flavor, and don’t mind a few quirky surprises along the way.
Just be sure to check whether the outdoor amenities are actually open before packing your swimsuit or yoga mat—yes, I travel with a full-size yoga mat. It’s a whole thing—I’ll explain in another post.
It’s Your Turn
Found a better place in KL and want to compare notes? Just want to vent about a wobbly desk or a hot plate betrayal? Don’t keep it to yourself. Drop me a message—I read every word.
